As a Man Thinketh

As a Man Thinketh” is a classic which was written by James Allen in the year 1904 and it is still relevant today as it was in those days.
In his own words the clear objective of this  little volume is to ‘stimulate men and women to the discovery of the truth which is that they themselves are the makers of themselves.‘He wants to instill a belief in people that their thoughts have great power. If they could harness the power of thier own thoughts then they can achieve anything they want.

He writes in simple and understandable language that appeals to all types of readers. This book is divided into 7 short chapters.Although these chapters may be short but they have depth. If a person sincerely wishes to change his future then he must read and re-read each chapter carefully to truly understand the true intention and meaning of the author.

The first chapter ‘Thought and Character’, talks about the fact that similar to the way in which a plant springs out of a seed in this way also every action of man springs forth from a thought. And like the fruit from the plant man gets the result from his action.

He goes on to give his simple but profound ideas on effects of thoughts on circumstances , health and body in the subsequent chapters. These open up new doors of understanding for any person reading it.

He throws light on his interpretation of the effects of thought on our achievements , visions and ideals. These are powerful ideas which have been explained nicely in this book.

He ends the book with some tremendous words like ‘Right thought is mastery, calmness is power and self control in thought is strength.’

hillaryI liked this book because James Allen put into words many thoughts I have had. The statements are blunt and some based on scientific evidence as opposed to personal experience (which can ring truth as well). If applied, this book has potential to be powerfully useful. It is very short, I read it in between classes in just a couple hours. It is thoughtful, obviously, not your basic story line book. I do think the book lacked in addressing mental illnesses fully. It gives the notion you can think away any problem or illness. While this has some truth, the mental struggle can often be overwhelming. I agree that the mind is very powerful, perhaps much more than we acknowledge. A good book to study.

allenIt’s amazing to me how certain philosophies are timeless. This book was written 100 years ago during England’s industrial age when oppression of the average worker was standard practice. James Allen tells the reader how your thoughts, not mere circumstance, are what creates your life events. Allen believes there is a law of thought that determines our every life event. All action comes from thought. This is so similar to book like The Secret and other books that have been so popular in the last few years even though it was written a century ago. What I really like about this book as opposed to the more modern books of the same philosophy is that Allen focuses on thinking on God and the divine rather than a non discript “universe”. This book is only a few pages and can easily be read in an hour or two.

This book is classic. It is one of those books which can be reread everytime when you feel down.I highly recommend this book. This book will tell you that everything is possible and it’s just your thoughts which need to be directed to achieve success in life.Go read this book.

Think and grow rich

”Think and Grow Rich”, is a book that has changed the lives of many people. Many people have become rich by following the principles laid down in this book. This book was written by Napoleon Hill.He was hired by Andrew Carnegie (one of the richest persons in the world at that time) to write this book.

This book is the result of more than 20 years of study on the lives of very successful people.Napoleon hill studied the habits, ideologies and philosophies of the mega rich. He then kind of formulated a step by step procedure to acquire immense wealth. This book has been sold in more than 30 million copies making it one of the best selling books of all time.

Napoleon Hill specifies in the beginning of the book that as you read the book you will discover a secret. This is the same secret that was used by successful people in accumulating their fortunes. This secret has been there for centuries. Some call it the “ultimate secret” and some call it the master secret. It is said that if somebody masters this secret then he or she can become rich beyond his/her wildest dreams.

However, the secret is never precisely mentioned in the book, but it is said to appear every once in a while as you read the book. It is up to you to discover and make use of it.

This secret was used by famous personalities like Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, J.D. Rockefeller, President Woodrow Wilson, President Theodore Roosevelt, Wilbur Wright to name a few.

This book will teach you how develop yourself into become of the most successful people in the world by discussing themes such as:

1. Desire and how to get the most out of it

2. Increasing your self-confidence

3. The power of thought

4. The power of autosuggestion

5. Imagination and how to boost it

6. Determination and how to increase it

7. How to make use of your subconscious mind

8. How to develop your perseverance

9. How to overcome the fear of failure.

This is one book which you can give to your children as soon as they reach the age of 10-12.They will start thinking over it and maybe someday they may become rich.

Her is what others are saying about this book…

Arminius says….

arminiusI was looking through some of the reviews and see that some people gave it five stars and some gave it only one. I think if the people who gave it one star would practice the principles given in this book they would quickly upgrade their rating.

This book was published in 1937, during the Great Depression, and if the people who suffered during that time had read this book their lives might have been better.

It is really about convincing yourself to become wealthy. It outlines the steps you need to take and the steps you need to avoid.

Most people do not succeed until they are older. In fact, most success does not come until after you are 40 years old. Edison & Carnegie were past the age of 40 when they made their fortune. He forgot to mention that George Washington was 43 when he took on the greatest military on earth.

His roundtable idea is very intriguing.

I do not see why anyone would not want to read this book.

Otis says….
1kkkkkThis is the best self help book any entrepreneur could ever read. Perhaps the only one they need to. Truly transformative. I have it on audio too and listen to it at the gym often.

Napoleon Hill was tasked by Andrew Carnegie to write a book on what made a successful person succeed, and he spent 20 years researching and interviewing every great name of the day (Ford, Woolworth, Edison, etc), plus lots of people who failed (because you have to know what doesn’t work too). This book is the result.

It basically hammers home a single point, over and over again. Success comes from knowing what you want to achieve and having a burning desire to achieve it.

This book is a classic. It has been around for some 80 years but still it’s advice is relevant today as it was in those days.If you want to read one book then read this book. This book will change your life.

alchemist“when you really want something, the whole universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”

This book has crossed the boundaries of books, and has taken a life of its own, creating a movement all around the globe.

Santiago’s journey and spiritual quest, the people he meets, the dreams he has, the omens he encounters, and the nature he speaks to, are all things that we can relate to..things that we’ve either forgotten about or simply dismissed as childhood fantasies. It is all about finding your Personal Legend and pursuing your dream regardless of any hurdles, and about being spiritually connected to the universe, which is part of us, and part of God. we are all one.

Erika Says….

al2I never thought i would be one person to say “I love The Alchemist”, but I am!

Honestly I don’t know why i always thought this book was bad, maybe because many people I know in person, who have read it, say it is amazing, I don’t seem to trust those opinions that much for some reason. But the thing is, it is a really good book, and I loved it.

I can understand those opinions of people who say this book is very repetitive in the lesson that is trying to teach you, and that it is wrong because you cannot expect that the universe will conspire to make all your wishes come true.

I don’t think it is wrong, I think what it is trying to teach you is that you need to keep motivated, and fight for what you want, and never give up. No matter how hard the situation seems, just keep headstrong, and give your best effort, and in reward God or the universe will compensate you for it.

I’ve experienced this many times, That’s why i believe it is true, and it is a good lesson for everyone.

This is one book which made me think more positively about life. This book tells you that god is always there to help you and he will help you if you honestly work in the direction of your dreams.Go read this book.It may change your life.
